The ‘magic’ of Salamander praised on NetSupport’s Check It Out Show

SalamanderSoft Managing Director Jon Atkinson appeared as a guest on NetSupport’s Check It Out Show, joining Al Kingsley (CEO of NetSupport) and Mark Anderson (Head of Education at NetSupport) to talk about how Salamander supports almost 4,000 schools across the world. 

SalamanderSoft Managing Director Jon Atkinson appeared as a guest on NetSupport’s Check It Out Show, joining Al Kingsley (CEO of NetSupport) and Mark Anderson (Head of Education at NetSupport) to talk about how Salamander supports almost 4,000 schools across the world.  

The Check It Out Show is a monthly YouTube live stream hosted by NetSupport that talks about some of the latest education solutions, services and technology.  

Jon joined a panel of guests, including 2econd Chance, Pulse 121, Xplorealms, Sumdog, Book Creator Team, Class Composer and Round Midnight.

“Teachers and staff in schools are spread so thin. We take the school’s MIS data (whether that’s in SIMS, Bromcom or Arbor) and use this to automate the creation and management of Google Classrooms, Microsoft Teams or Apple School Manager,” Jon explains as he introduces himself to Al and Mark. 

“We provide peace of mind that everything teachers and students need is always there. When new students join the school, they have everything they need (Teams, calendars, access to resources) ready to go. We take away the admin headache.”  

Al then moves on to praise Salamander’s reputation in the sector and mentions a recent endorsement from Strategic IT Director and ANME Ambassador Dave Leonard (@ITBadger):

“You’re clearly doing something right! What do you think makes you stand out from the crowd compared to some of your competitors?”

Jon responds: 

“We see ourselves delivering a service rather than a piece of software. We’re not just selling software and then walking away from schools. Everything is very hands-on – everything is built for the [individual] school... and we try to build that relationship and trust with the customer so they can come to us about anything.”  

Next, Al asks Jon about Salamander’s work with network managers: 

“For network managers, in particular, the biggest thing we’re offering is the time-saving. One of our customers has said that they stay with us because of the peace of mind – they just know things are going to happen. If a new staff member starts, they don’t need to worry; all they need to do is pick up the username and password we generate for them and hand it over to the new user,” Jon describes.

“It’s all about speed and efficiency. The urgency [around blended and online learning] has massively changed. Having everything ready almost instantly is really powerful, and our automation just saves time and makes things a lot easier for IT managers in schools.”

And, as Mark prompts, the teaching staff also benefit from Salamander’s service: 

“What is it that you do that really makes it magic or – as likes of Dave Leonard puts it – the cat’s whiskers?”

Jon replies:  

“Magic is a term that some of our customers have used to describe us in the past. For teachers, it automatically has Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom set up without having to create them manually or remember if a student changes from one class to another. It’s all done for you, and you can focus on the job at hand – teaching!”
