SalamanderSoft Founder and Chairman Richard Willis and Managing Director Jon Atkinson recently got together at the Centre For Digital Innovation (C4DI) in Hull to discuss the rapid changes the education technology sector has seen over the last few years and how we've adapted as a business to support our customers.
With an enormous demand for online and blended learning tools worldwide due to the Covid-19 pandemic, SalamanderSoft has seen remarkable changes in the way schools, trusts and their IT departments rely on their technology.
“The need for online learning has changed significantly. But one of the key changes we’ve seen in the way schools work is the sense of urgency around online learning. So our support for current and new customers has had to adapt quickly to accommodate this,” Jon begins.
“We’re now supporting almost 4,000 schools – with about a quarter of them joining us within the past few years.”

Richard agrees that the growth in demand has been exponential:
“From the start, we’ve always tried to not only give the customer what they’ve wanted but to exceed expectations. And this has not changed as we’ve grown as a team and as a business.”
As most of our growing team have experience working in schools, working in the education sector drives them to provide an excellent service.
“What our team love most about working for SalamanderSoft is they can have a real impact and influence on what they’re delivering to schools,” says Jon.
“I’ve worked in the education sector for around 15 years – I started as an IT technician – and it’s really rewarding. Working for SalamanderSoft means I can help schools get access to this technology, and that is one reason I get up in the morning.”
As the needs of schools change again now that we enter a post-lockdown era, our vision for SalamanderSoft is twofold:
“First, we need to maintain what we do for our existing customers; they are the reason we have a business. We’re working hard as a business to increase our support team and thinking about how better we can deliver our services.” Jon enthuses.
“Secondly, we want to support as many schools as we can. We know there are lots of schools in the UK that could benefit from our service. So, we’re thinking about how we can adapt what we currently offer to support a wider market and get schools making use of these technologies.”
Richard adds:
“As far as I’m concerned, the future for us is to keep giving great service to our customers and help them in the day-to-day running of their schools.”
